Private Psychiatric Assessments
– Next Steps

This page outlines what to expect after booking a Private Psychiatric Assessment with Spectrum Mind Healthcare.

All psychiatric assessments follow a structured, Consultant Psychiatrist-led clinical pathway to ensure diagnostic accuracy, medical accountability and clarity at every stage.

Assessment pathway (at a glance)

1. Initial Information and Triage

Once you book a Private Psychiatric Assessment, we will request information in advance to help prepare for a comprehensive and focused consultation. This may include:

  • A brief description of current mental health concerns and difficulties
  • Relevant medical history, including physical and mental health
  • Current and previous medications (name, dose and frequency)
  • Any previous psychiatric or psychological assessments or treatments and the respective clinic letters and reports.

Where appropriate, additional information from a family member or carer may be requested with your consent.

Pre-appointment questionnaires or forms will be sent by email and should be completed before the assessment appointment.

2. Psychiatric Assessment Appointment

Your psychiatric assessment will be conducted by a Consultant Psychiatrist and will typically include:

  • A detailed clinical interview exploring current symptoms and concerns
  • Review of mental health history and relevant life events
  • Consideration of medical, psychological and social factors
  • Assessment of risk, where appropriate

The assessment is conducted as a comprehensive medical evaluation, with careful consideration of differential diagnoses and co-occurring conditions.Diagnostic conclusions are made by the Consultant Psychiatrist using recognised diagnostic frameworks, including DSM-5-TR and ICD-11, where applicable.

3. Treatment Planning and Follow-Up

Following the assessment, you will receive:

  • A clear explanation of the assessment outcome
  • Diagnostic conclusions where appropriate
  • Evidence-based treatment recommendations tailored to your needs

Where clinically indicated, this may include:

  • Medication initiation or adjustment under medical supervision
  • Recommendations for psychological therapy or other supports
  • Follow-up appointments for monitoring and review

Shared care with your GP may be discussed when clinically appropriate and with your consent.
